a LEGIT way to look for cruise ship employment ?

I’ve been on multiple websites & every single one seems to be phony, or a dead end. Any ideas??

I have not worked on a cruise ship but I have been on about 20 cruises and I usually talk to the staff, and usually about how work is going. A few things I have learned are that if you are hired you have to sign a contract to work for 8 or 9 months straight. And that means 7 days a week and usually 10 to 12 hours a day and sometimes with a split shift that starts early in the morning and does not end until 10 or 11 PM. There are no Saturdays and Sundays off and you may get to go ashore in port stops on on occasions but not at every stop. After you complete your initial tour then you get 2 or 3 months off before you are to report back to the ship.

All of the cruise lines operating out of the US have jobs information and a link on their web home page. So for a starting point you need to read what they present on their web sites and then contact the cruise lines directly. On the cruise lines’ web sites you will find a link to jobs, employment, human resources or some such link that will give you information about their positions. And there are no fees or charges for information. Some sites even have current vacancies they are recruiting for. Several cruise lines have new ships coming out soon so opportunities will be there. Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Disney and some others will have new ships launched in the next couple years.

Here are some links:

Carnival Cruise line is the parent company for several cruise lines including Princess, Carnival, Holland America, Cunard, Seabourn Cruise, and Costa Cruises. Carnival’s Corporate offices are located in Miami, Florida. So if you contact carnival you can also ask about the others.

BEWARE OF WEB SITES ADVERTISING CRUISE SHIP JOBS THAT CHARGE A FEE !!! They will take your money and you will not necessarily get a job.

Another thing to do is to contact the concession that run the shops on the ships like the spa, photos, souvenir, gift and clothing shops. Below are links for you.

Cruise Ship Employment

http://vur.me/coop7/16974784 Cruise ship employment has seen a tremendous amount of growth over the last several years. It has enabled thousands of people to trade a forty hour work week for world wide travel and life changing experiences. Regardless of your nationality, experience, sex, or background, the cruise ship employment industry offers the average person the employment chance of a lifetime. Where else can you get paid tax free while visiting the Caribbean, or the Alaskan frontier? However, it is imperative that you have an educated resource to answer your questions, give you definitive advice, and shoot you straight. In order to truly separate yourself from your competitors you need to know how to apply, when to apply, and various other aspects to help ensure your success. While there is a definite demand within cruise ship employment industry, there are also thousands of applicants. The thing that makes you stand out from a stack of resumes is vital information, which very few people have access to. There are countless guides and agents that would lead you to believe they are the authority on the subject. However, what they lack is the actual experience of life on board a cruise ship. Do you really know what work you would be involved with? How will you pay your bills while away? What hours will you be working? Can you socialize with guests? These are just a few very important questions that you need to have answered, not by someone from behind a desk, but someone involved in the cruise ship employment industry. By someone that has successfully hired thousands of applicants personally, and knows what employers are looking for. Think of how much of an advantage you would have, if you had access to a foremost expert that ran a hiring agency, and staffed several prominent cruise liners. There are many variables that go into the entire process of employment from start to finish. If you have a better understanding of what employers are looking for, then you position yourself as a strong potential hire. Once you move forward with the process, you can establish yourself as a credible candidate during your actual interview. How will you know what to say, to enhance your chances of employment? And how should you say it? It’s rather easy once you have access to the criteria employers look for, long before you even step foot in your interview. If the idea of making countless friends, connections, and traveling to exotic locations interests you, then you owe it to yourself to get the facts. What you leave to chance will have a great impact when you’re seeking cruise ship employment. Remember, the dream job your seeking is being sought after by thousands of others as well. Can anyone tell me where I can get a medical for cruise ship employment? I need the full medical.North England?

I live in the North West of England and need the full medical including drug testing and chest xray. Also what sort of cost will it be?
There’s a marine doctor in Buxton, one in Preston and one in London [harley St] it’s £80 and lasts for two years. That’s about all there is. They don’t do a drug test, it’s not normally required. Perhaps you get the marine certificate off the marine doctor and then go to the hospital for a chest Xray and drug test. Search for…seafarers medicals or try http://www.mcga.gov.uk then click on ‘working at sea’ [top of page] and then ‘medical certificates’

About employment on a cruise line, why is it hard? and ?

do the employees have access to any kind of internet when on the ship?
If an employee needs to order something through the mail on the internet can employees on a cruise line receive mail at all ?

How much free time do employees have ?

and does anyone know if they will hire someone with no experience, what is the process like to go and apply, is there some sort of interview? Is it on the ship or in an office?

It all depends on the cruise line you work for.
Heres a fairly good link that explains…there are many more websites to check out, just google

Employment on cruise ships with children?

I have a 4 year old son and i was curious as to working on a cruise ship and having a child. Would they let me bring him and while i work have him in the daycare area?? Is this even a possibility?

I don’t think Carnival will let you, but you should try Royal Carribean, and Disney cruises. I would look into it on the websites, and if it doesn’t say anything, I would call.

Michigan Cruise Ships?

Hello all. I am interested in Cruise Ship employment, however I live in Central Michigan. I have had Cruise Ship experience, but we only went out nine miles into international waters and came back(a day cruise) into port. Now I live in Michigan and wonder if there are any luxury cruise ships that go out from Michigan (since it’s pretty much surrounded by water).

Thx.

not from michigan. try florida, the gulf coast, san diego, new york. vancouver bc.

On this website you will find a list of cruise lines: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cruise_lines

Go to the wikipedia page of each company and at the bottom will be a link to that company’s home page.

On the company homepage there will be a link saying RECRUITMENT or CAREERS, if there is not then go to CONTACT US and there should be an e-mail address there.

Check out that on the wikipedia list they are listed according to country headquarters, so it would be sensible to only enquire a job at those companies with a headquarters in your country.

And final tip: don’t wait for a job to be advertised. Send a resumé anyway, along with a cover note. Google information on how to write a cover letter and a resumé, keep both brief and nicely formatted.
