How long does the hiring process for a Cruise Line Take?

November 5th, 2009

I am seriously considering a job with a cruise line. I have a 6 month lease at my current townhouse and I was wondering anyone out there who has gone through this – how long does the hiring process take? Should I start applying now, or wait until I get closer to my lease being up?
For all who have gone through the process what method would you recommend for applying and submitting your resume? I’ve been looking directly at the different lines websites and sending my resume out (I started yesterday). I’ve found other webistes that say they will get you a job with different lines…are those worth your time?

I’ve seen it take 6 months to a week to get a job. All depends on what they need when. Like Kevin L said, go ahead and apply and mention when you will be available.

I have been to 1 recruiter and did not like the fact, that I could have ended up with any cruise line.

So I opted out of that and went directly to the cruise line which I was interested in. And the good part was, that I did not have to pay in order to get a job there.

Good luck to you

Royal Caribbean Employment?

October 26th, 2009

I am currently completing Year 12 and am hoping to get a job for Royal Caribbean after i finish school and turn 18. I am thinking about the housekeeping department. Has anyone worked with this cruise line before? Would you recommend it? And also what is the best way to apply for a position? Any other information about employment on a cruise ship would be greatly appreciated. =)

For most positions with Royal Caribbean International you need to be 21.

The exceptions are: Salon/Spa employee and Production Show cast member.

Joys of life on board a cruise ship, doing cruise ship jobs

September 26th, 2009

Its not so affordable for everyone to go on cruise ships, so the best option is to get a cruise ship jobs and you get the best of both worlds. You get to see the places and experience what cruising is all about. The best is you get paid for it, so you get to see these places for nothing.

Working on cruise ships have there plusses and minus of course. The minuses are of course you have to be a happy camper all the time, as that is what is expected, these people are on vacation and they only want to enjoy themselves, so lots of smiling or else they tell you to smile. The plusses are of course getting to see all those places whether the Caribbean, getting to go to the beach all the time or doing Europe and visiting all the amazing things there, the Vatican, leaning tower of Pisa, Venice, the casino in Monte Carlo, seeing the Palace in Monaco to name a few.

Getting to do shopping in all these ports as well, eventually you know where to get the bargains, where the markets are located.  Picking up some nice nicks knacks for family and friends back home.  Or getting to eat out and experience the local cuisines in the different places.  Whether Spanish tapas or Mexico tacos. fajitas, the list is endless.  Some of the favorite places for crew in Cozumel, Mexico, is Pizza Rolandis it has changed name, its does the best food, wonderful calzones with a tomato paste on top, you never get tired of it, it has a wonderful courtyard, lovely greenery and plants, or the cheapy indian shack in St Maarten, not really a shack thats what its called.

Living on a cruise ship is something you need to adapt to, firstly every cruise you get to do passenger boat drill, which is mandatory, you have to get the passengers to muster in a line, then do the lifejacket demonstration.  Plus you have a crew drill once a week as well. Then its about sharing your cabin with someone you don’t know possibly from another country than you.  Sharing the cabin means sharing the shower and toilet, getting organized so you both don’t want to shower at the same time.  You have to learn to respect each others cultures and ways. Joys of cruise ship jobs, getting along….

Making sure you have clean uniforms, you can take uniforms to the chinese laundry on board, your personal laundry, there are washers and dryers in sections of the cruise ships for use, some even make you put quarters in to use.  There are normally irons with ironing boards as well for use.  For eating on board, some ships have crew messes, staff and officers messes, or some have crew/staff mixed and officers separate.  Some of the crew messes predominantly cater for the Philippino crew and caribbean crew.  So at times you are lucky if you get a ship with good food, most of them always have salads.  Mostly the food is quite good.  Obviously you have to go during the scheduled times to eat.  They also normally have slop chests for buying toiletries, and all the necessities you need.  There are medical facility for crew, also the hours are posted.  They have regular parties or barbecues for crew. They also organize crew tours, outings to different places or on catamarans, which can be great fun.

It is like anything in life it is what you make of it.  The greatest experience of your life doing cruise ship crew jobs…..so get that cruise ship job vacancies.

Looking for Cruise Jobs

Would you like to find a job, where you don’t have to worry about the energy bill, or rent, or gas for the car, apply for cruise jobs. Think of all that money you will save not having all those extra things to worry about. So why not get a job on a cruise ship.

A lot of us dream as children of traveling and seeing the world, crossing the oceans and visiting these countries and seeing different cultures, now this is a dream that can be fulfilled by any of you, you just need to make the move and do it. The early years it was mainly very brave  that ventured on the oceans but now with the cruise industry getting so big, its open to all, take to the sea and get yourself a cruise job.

There are huge cruise ships out there, they all need lots of people to run them, they are like floating hotels, restaurants with different cuisines and all kinds of entertainment, with casinos and theaters, some even have ice-skating rinks.

You can get Royal Caribbean Cruise Jobs, Cunard Cruise Jobs, Carnival Cruise Jobs, all the cruise lines are there for cruise ship employment.

The range of jobs are endless, marine division, engine dept, hotel section, casino workers, youth staff, medical, entertainment, beauty salon, housekeeping, restaurant staff, shop staff, the list goes on.

Getting paid to see the world doing Cruise Jobs

The best thing about cruise jobs is that you get to see the world and get paid for it, you get free time to go at in all these ports the cruise ships stop over, you can do excursions as well. You get paid, depending on your job, the pay will still be worth your while. The cruise jobs salary  range from $1,000 upwards and extra! As I mentioned earlier no worries about rent, its rent-free your accommodation. You get benefits as well: included is medical, dental, life and disability insurances, you get vacations every 6months or depending on your contracts or what division your are in.

What benefits you get doing Cruise Jobs

Cruise jobs allow you to use a lot of the facilities that are for the paying passengers, depending yet again on what position your are in.  They also provide facilities for crew (employees) that are only for there use to relax during free time, i.e. crew bars, lounges, internet cafes, library, shop to buy necessary toiletries and little snacks, drinks etc.  so you feel more like at home.

The cruise ships keep getting bigger and bigger, the industry has grown tremendously, using all kinds of home ports where the ships sail out of, for people that don’t want to fly, can just drive down.
