Despite all the talk of the current economic climate, the boom in the cruise industry just doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

This year we have yet another “Biggest Cruise Ship in the World” entry from Royal Caribbean with their jaw-dropping 6,400-passenger, Oasis of the Seas.

Of course, this is fantastic news for those looking for cruise ship jobs because these new ships alone will create a demand for an EXTRA 10,000 new crew members in 2009 to fill every position imaginable – from cleaners, entertainers, shop staff, bar staff, beauty staff, security, casino staff, photographers and many more.

Here’s a look at some of the new cruise ships being launched in 2009 and some important information about each new ship:

MSC Cruises

Splendida

The Splendida is sister to MSC Fantasia. These ships are MSC’s largest class, and too large to transit the Panama Canal. It will have a crew to passenger ratio of one for every 2.5 passengers.

Pearl Seas Cruises

Unlike other big cruise lines who have been devoting its new-build strategy to bigger and bigger vessels, Costa is taking a step back with the creation of Costa Luminosa. The Luminosa will be a new, smaller ship but a trendsetter in contemporary design; using of state-of-the-art technology to provide stunning light and color effects on board.

Costa Pacifica

Viking Legend will be one of the most state-of-the-art river vessels afloat, and at 443 feet long – the longest in the Viking fleet. The ship will start its season sailing the The Rhine, Main and Danube rivers as it sails from Amsterdam to Budapest. The ship will also have an English-speaking crew with a ratio of one to 3.8 passengers.
