My one main goal in life was doing Cruise Jobs

Nr 1 Goal-do Cruise Jobs on Ships

<img src="cruiseshipimage/cruise-jobs.jpg alt="Cruise Jobs">

A RCCL Ship in Costa Maya, Mexico

We all start off with our main goals in life, mine of course was cruise jobs on ships, mainly to see all the places in the world, my dad was in the navy. I grew up in Cape Town which is still after all my travels still one of the most picturesque places in the world. I got to see almost all the places I dreamt of as a child, except Mcchu Picchu in Peru

1st Break to get Cruise Jobs on ships

My life on cruise ships started through a friend who was working on a ship out of Cyprus, there were 3 of us, we started working on a Louis Cruise Line ship doing cruises to Israel, Egypt and the Greek Islands. I worked on 2 ships with them, 2 stints on both. It was to be the start of a long life on cruise ships, eighteen years in total….yes some people do it for a few years and quit, I kept going. I loved seeing all the new places, well eventually they were not new, got to do India twice, Norway until I dreamt of the place.

<img src="Mermozimage.jpg" alt="Mermoz" title="The French Cruise Ship-Mermoz" />
The French cruise ship the Mermoz

I got a taste of what life on cruise ships were about, working out of Cyprus, I loved doing that part of the world, Egypt, Israel and the Greek Islands, Cyprus is a wonderful place and the people. Then it was time to move on, after a year I got a job on a French Cruise Ship the Mermoz owned by Croisieres Paquet. I worked for a casino concessionaire Casinos Austria. The Mermoz, sadly, does no long exist, she was sold to strangely enough to Louis Cruise Line, scrapped her after a few years.  The Mermoz was by far my favorite cruise ship, even after all those years (18), she was a classic old lady, very French.  I saw practically all the world, working on board her. Thank You Mermoz for the wonderful experiences of seeing the Galapagos Island not once but twice, Cuba, India, South America, Norway even my home town Cape Town, and then some really remote places as well, St Helena Island midway into the Atlantic, that is just a few. They even had wonderful musical cruises, theatrical ones, where they would go to places in old amphitheatres in Greece and do shows there, or have classical show on board.

Cruise jobs on a ferry boat

I even did a short stint on a ferry boat between Greece and Northern Italy, Anek Lines during the winter, lovely choppy seas of course. The money was good on there I worked for an American man who had the concessionaire on there.  My life changed, I then went to work out of New Orleans doing the Caribbean for Commodore Cruise Line, no longer exists. It was fun doing the Caribbean, going to the beach, wonderful experiences.

I returned to Europe and got a job with an English Casino Concessionaire, Southern Games based in Fulham, London.  I did quite a lot of different ships with them, the Portuguese ship the Funchal, which I did Brazil for the summer season three times, one of my favourite places is Brazil, the people just have so much energy, the place has a real buzz about it, the music. The Funchal would do seasons out of Sweden, the Norwegian fjords, beautiful, then Mediterranean, she kept moving, was in all different languages as well. I did some ships out of Palma de Majorca, one strangely enough yet again a Louis Cruise Line ship (haunting me) that was owned previously by Croisieres Paquet the owners of the Mermoz. It seem strangely intertwined, I never did figure that out. I also did the wonderful cruise ship Marco Polo joining her in Singapore coming back to the Mediterranean.

I ended my cruise history by doing 8 years with Royal Caribbean International, doing three of their Celebrity ships, wonderful cruise line as well.  The Royal Caribbean ships are getting bigger and bigger, I did three of the Voyager class one.  I highly recommend working for Royal Caribbean, check out their website.
I managed to fulfill my numer one goal and many others along the way, the moral is to follow your gut feeling inside with many things in life, for all of your thinking about that be adventurous get a cruise jobs for you, aim for the goals and things will happen for you.

Sticky: a LEGIT way to look for cruise ship employment ?

March 17th, 2010

Cruise Ship Employment

I’ve been on multiple websites & every single one seems to be phony, or a dead end. Any ideas??
I have not worked on a cruise ship but I have been on about 20 cruises and I usually talk to the staff, and usually about how work is going.

A few things I have learned are that if you are hired you have to sign a contract to work for 8 or 9 months straight. And that means 7 days a week and usually 10 to 12 hours a day and sometimes with a split shift that starts early in the morning and does not end until 10 or 11 PM. There are no Saturdays and Sundays off and you may get to go ashore in port stops on on occasions but not at every stop. After you complete your initial tour then you get 2 or 3 months off before you are to report back to the ship.

All of the cruise lines operating out of the US have jobs information and a link on their web home page. So for a starting point you need to read what they present on their web sites and then contact the cruise lines directly.

On the cruise lines’ web sites you will find a link to jobs, employment, human resources or some such link that will give you information about their positions. And there are no fees or charges for information. Some sites even have current vacancies they are recruiting for. Several cruise lines have new ships coming out soon so opportunities will be there. Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Disney and some others will have new ships launched in the next couple years. Here are some links:

Carnival Cruise line is the parent company for several cruise lines including Princess, Carnival, Holland America, Cunard, Seabourn Cruise, and Costa Cruises. Carnival’s Corporate offices are located in Miami, Florida.

So if you contact carnival you can also ask about the others.

CARNIVAL: http://www.carnivalcruiselines.com/

PRINCESS: CUNARD: HOLLAND AMERICA COSTA:

Royal Caribbean is the parent cruise line for its partner cruise lines, Celebrity, Azamara, and some others. Their corporate offices are located in Miami, Florida. So in contacting RC you can ask about the others ROYAL CARIBBEAN:

http://www.royalcaribbean.com/gohome.d….. AZAMARA: CELEBRITY: NORWEGIAN:

http://www.ncl.com/

DISNEY: http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/dcl/…..

BEWARE OF WEB SITES ADVERTISING CRUISE SHIP EMPLOYMENT /JOBS THAT CHARGE A FEE !!!

They will take your money and you will not necessarily get a job. Another thing to do is to contact the concession that run the shops on the ships like the spa, photos, souvenir, gift and clothing shops.

The five-ship fleet of the P&O Cruises consists of Aurora, Oriana, Arcadia, Artemis and Oceana. Each of the cruise ships run by the Carnival UK is staffed by around 15 000 men and women. Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise Line watches over operations onboard of the fleet of more than fourteen cruise ships within its brands NCL, NCL America and Orient Lines. There are some limitations and requirements to be granted a Freestyle Cruise job onboard a NCL America cruise liner (see How To Get A Job section). There are also differences between those three brands in terms of employment policy, which the cruise line authorities will explain to you at the time of hire. The company applies a customer service concept called STYLE – Service Teamwork and Yes Lead to Excellence. Like with all the major cruise lines, if your job performance is viewed as satisfactory, you will be leaving one season headed home with an employment contract for another one safe in your pocket. (see How To Get A Job section for details).

Great site, look at all the different cruise lines.

how/where can i find a cruise line job?

November 23rd, 2009

what are my chances out of cincinnati ohio?

The cruise lines all have an "employment" link on their websites.

The cruise lines don’t seem to hire many Americans. The ships are not covered by American labor laws, so pay is extremely low, work hours are long, and quarters are cramped. It’s not as glamorous as one might think.
