How the Cruise Ships kept getting bigger

<img src="CelebrityCruiseLineimage/cruise-ships.jpg" alt="Cruise Ships">
You can find so many cruise ships around nowadays; the cruise lines were churning them out of the shipyards, which had a flourishing business. The Cruise Ships were getting bigger and bigger, trying to outdo each other and have the biggest and best ship breaking all kinds of boundaries on all side. Take Royal Caribbean International pushing the boundaries with all the added extra aboard their vessels, first the climbing wall and the skating rink, now the floating bar, with the added extras onboard there amazing vessels. It is quite interesting to know a little about cruise ships prior to
thinking about doing cruise jobs.

Some of the biggest Cruise Ships today

From Wikepedia:
1. Allure of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International, debut 2010 - 225,282 GT (gross tonnage)

6. MSC Fantasia, MSC Cruises, debut 2008 – 137,936 GT
MSC Splendida, MSC Cruises, debut 2009 – 137,936 GT

Some of the popular cruise ships from 2011 are:
Allure of the Seas, Norwegian Epic, Carnival Magic, Oasis of the Seas, Celebrity Solstice, Disney Dream, Ruby Princess, Liberty of the Seas, Carnival Dream, Norwegian Gem, Celebrity Constellation. Sourced from Cruise Critic.

A little bit of useful information for considering doing cruise ships jobs.

So is it a great experience to work on big Cruise Ships or not?

I always vowed I was not interested in working on big cruise ships, that they were so impersonal, so many people. I was pleasantly surprised when I worked onboard the Adventure, the Navigator of the Seas and the Voyager of the Seas. It was quite a pleasant experience doing cruise jobs on the big cruise ships, lots to do and see facilities for the crew just seemed to be a touch better. I also worked on the Millenium, the Infinity from Celebrity, which are a little more upscale than the Royal ones’ but also a pleasant experience, just a touch more classy.

So I would say yes there are lots more people about but there is so much more interactive things like the cabin facility things like the Internet in the cabin, Ipads now.

Really when I think back to when I started Cruise Jobs, I never needed to pay for anything it was all info passed down by word of mouth. Of course I paid my own air ticket, my necessary visas and the medical costs. But really for finding that cruise ship job you really don’t need to pay any agency for helping. There are a lot of scams out there so you have to be careful.

Casino cruise jobs, in the world of casinos as such you always know someone who has worked on cruise ships, be it a friend or someone else friend. Why pay when it is really about finding out the facts of the matter.

A few things you will need to pay for Casino Cruise Jobs

Your initial air ticket
Your seaman’s visa C1D1 or other necessary ones
Your medical for ships

You will need to have the necessary experience of the table games, cashier, and slot technician depending on the position.

My last company I worked for was Royal Caribbean, so it is worth checking out, I seen they are currently looking for Slot Technicians on there site, you can apply there.

The casinos on board Royal Caribbean are called Casino Royale a touch of Monte Carlo, with a mixture of the slot machines and the table games. They employed lively and friendly casino staff to work in there casinos.

See how to apply to Royal Caribbean International

Easy steps to apply to Royal Caribbean International

The Royal Caribbean International has a really easy website to navigate, to get to all the relevant pages and to the hiring partners in the various countries but you can also register your resume on the site itself.

(See clip below from the Allure of the Seas, just to get an idea what the cruise ship looks like, what they have onboard all.)

The thing to remember is, that it is quite a big change to work on a cruise ship, a completely different environment. The appearance might be of a hotel resort but it is a moving one at that with all the relevant safety aspects as well. You will need to adapt to living in a fairly small cabin and will have to or not share with another person possibly from another country with all their strange quirks and foibles.

So make sure that you are certain about the position you would like to work in onboard the cruise ship as well.

<img src="cruiseshipimage/Royal-Caribbean-International.jpg" alt="Royal Caribbean International">

You might find you have to have further interviews to assess more about you and you can also find out more about Royal Caribbean in the process, ask those relevant questions. They will contact you or the hiring partner to let you know if you have been put on the list for scheduling.

What a silly word Cruise Jobs is…

What a silly word really Cruise Jobs, when I myself think of working on a cruise ship, I would use the word cruise ship jobs. But you really will be amazed at what people google when they search for words; this word is one of the most popular.

I worked on cruise ships for 18 years and I would never use this expression, but obviously other people do use it.
<img src="crapsgameimage/cruise-jobs.jpg" alt="Cruise Jobs">

Casino Dealer doing cruise jobs

I worked in the casino for most of my life and on cruise ships, doing casino jobs as a casino dealer for my last 8 years of ship life for Royal Caribbean International, doing three of there Celebrity Cruises ships as well. Before them I worked for a lot of different cruise lines, sometimes for the casino concessionaire, which has practically fallen away these days. One of the things I gained or I am very thankful is, from working for Royal Caribbean International is that I was trained on craps (dice) for most dealers or croupiers this is the pinnacle of there casino career, or for me it was. What a feeling standing there with the stick in your hand or feeling the dice as they fly from the stick as you push it out.

Beauty Salon, Shoppies, girls/guys doing Cruise Jobs

I really never envied the Steiner girls or guys on cruise ships with the long hours they had to work, my niece wanted to work in the beauty salon as a beautician doing massage. I basically told her the hours that some of them worked, she quickly changed her mind. I guess I should have let her find out for herself, it probably would have given her an excellent life lesson and made her live in the real world maybe. The Steiner staff would have to do the cleaning thing the night before the end of the cruise for the inspection in the morning. Though they always had loads of fun after hours socializing with all the officers and getting to all those great parties.

The shoppies had a nice social life out and about most nights in the bars; they had a pretty good life, except for when they had to do stores in port. Not such a lovely job if you are a girl, loading boxes and goodies for the pier.

Other kinds of Cruise Jobs

The divers on the big ships had a wonderful job imagine doing this for a living, basically training people to get certified and then taking them out for dives. This is a wonderful job, and then spending a few weeks on the Royal Caribbean private island.

Cruise Staff also have quite a cushy job they get to entertain the passengers, also a lot of work, you really have to love people and have fun doing activities.

Youth Activities is another excellent choice of cruise job, if you are trained in child minding, another job where you really do something that you love.

A lot of the jobs are for people that are passionate about what they do, like the bridge officers (maritime) or the engine room guys. It’s all about your outlook on life and what you are getting from it. Most of those guys are pretty ambitious working to get somewhere, promotion wise, whether it is to be the main guy like the Captain; it’s a career for a lot of them. Good for them I admire them for there ambitions.

Discover Cruise Line Companies

So many Cruise Line Companies

Whether you are a prospective cruise line employee and trying to figure out which cruise line companies to apply to for that cruise ship jobs. The main thing with all the cruise lines is that they want people that are willing to please, to keep there passengers happy.

Try one of the Cruise Line Companies

Trying to find one of those particular Cruise Line Companies around, which cruise line brand to choose. Though at the end of the day Carnival owns a lot of them under one umbrella. Royal Caribbean has also got a few under there one.

One thing is for certain all the cruise lines have one thing in common they all want to keep there paying passengers happy, so they can keep coming back repeatedly. The happy passenger will tell all his friends and family what a wonderful cruise they had, which in turn encourages other people to cruise with that line and voila you got some bodies to fill your ships with. Which in turn keeps the cruise economy ticking over happily.

If you are looking for that cruise line jobs, you need to have that willing to please and happy disposition.

So how do the Cruise Line Companies keep passengers happy

Well it all starts with the employees, from shore based, who the passengers sees first at the embarkation point at the port. The next employees are the crewmember welcoming them on board the cruise ship. The Welcoming Cruise Line staff need to be jolly, happy, smiling and helpful, first impressions do count; we all judge a book by its cover. Especially a person new to cruising is quite intimidated with the huge cruise ships of today, finding their way around. A friendly helpful crewmember can just make them feel so much more comfortable.

The next thing is the food, when your tummy is full all is good, people on cruises love to stuff there selves they are on vacation. Of course the entertainment and the cruise staff for all the activities in the day by the pool, or all the game shows, all great fun, just makes the cruise. Most people will go to the casino as well, the average person has gambled, but for the newbie’s it is good if the dealer made them feel comfortable, chatting and smiling at them, or helped them if they are not familiar with certain games.

Shore excursions, especially in Europe, there is so much to see that people like to do the tours.

The Cruise Line Companies

Carnival Corporation: The biggest cruise company.

Carnival Cruise Line – the fun ships

Royal Caribbean

Azmara Club Cruises – top line need to have good PR.
Pullmantar – largest cruise line in Spain, Spanish & Portuguese speaking crew
CDF Croisieres de France – (all French speaking crew)

Norwegian Cruise Line: Is owned by Genting which also has Star Cruises which is popular in Asia, They have Orient Lines as well.

Disney Cruise Line

<img src="disneyshipimage/cruise-line-companies.jpg" alt="Cruise Line Companies">

There are several others cruise lines in the Mediterranean
Fred Olhson – Norwegian owned English company.
Louis Cruises – Cypriot company owned by the Louis hotels group.

Classic International Cruises – Portuguese based company.

MSC Cruises – Italian company, does cruises out of South Africa in the summer as well.

There are a lot out of Greece as well, as well as ferry lines.

Wikipedia has a whole list of cruise lines & the ferry lines.

What to do now with Cruise Line Companies

Once you have decided on which cruise line you wish to work for. Firstly, if in the states you apply directly to the cruise line. If you are outside the US you general go through a hiring agent in your country, or a recruitment agent, yet again depending on your country.

My one main goal in life was doing Cruise Jobs

Nr 1 Goal-do Cruise Jobs on Ships

<img src="cruiseshipimage/cruise-jobs.jpg alt="Cruise Jobs">

A RCCL Ship in Costa Maya, Mexico

We all start off with our main goals in life, mine of course was cruise jobs on ships, mainly to see all the places in the world, my dad was in the navy. I grew up in Cape Town which is still after all my travels still one of the most picturesque places in the world. I got to see almost all the places I dreamt of as a child, except Mcchu Picchu in Peru

1st Break to get Cruise Jobs on ships

My life on cruise ships started through a friend who was working on a ship out of Cyprus, there were 3 of us, we started working on a Louis Cruise Line ship doing cruises to Israel, Egypt and the Greek Islands. I worked on 2 ships with them, 2 stints on both. It was to be the start of a long life on cruise ships, eighteen years in total….yes some people do it for a few years and quit, I kept going. I loved seeing all the new places, well eventually they were not new, got to do India twice, Norway until I dreamt of the place.

cruise jobs

<img src="Mermozimage.jpg" alt="Mermoz" title="The French Cruise Ship-Mermoz" />
The French cruise ship the Mermoz

cruise jobs

I got a taste of what life on cruise ships were about, working out of Cyprus, I loved doing that part of the world, Egypt, Israel and the Greek Islands, Cyprus is a wonderful place and the people. Then it was time to move on, after a year I got a job on a French Cruise Ship the Mermoz owned by Croisieres Paquet. I worked for a casino concessionaire Casinos Austria. The Mermoz, sadly, does no long exist, she was sold to strangely enough to Louis Cruise Line, scrapped her after a few years.  The Mermoz was by far my favorite cruise ship, even after all those years (18), she was a classic old lady, very French.  I saw practically all the world, working on board her. Thank You Mermoz for the wonderful experiences of seeing the Galapagos Island not once but twice, Cuba, India, South America, Norway even my home town Cape Town, and then some really remote places as well, St Helena Island midway into the Atlantic, that is just a few. They even had wonderful musical cruises, theatrical ones, where they would go to places in old amphitheatres in Greece and do shows there, or have classical show on board.

Cruise jobs on a ferry boat

I even did a short stint on a ferry boat between Greece and Northern Italy, Anek Lines during the winter, lovely choppy seas of course. The money was good on there I worked for an American man who had the concessionaire on there.  My life changed, I then went to work out of New Orleans doing the Caribbean for Commodore Cruise Line, no longer exists. It was fun doing the Caribbean, going to the beach, wonderful experiences.

I returned to Europe and got a job with an English Casino Concessionaire, Southern Games based in Fulham, London.  I did quite a lot of different ships with them, the Portuguese ship the Funchal, which I did Brazil for the summer season three times, one of my favourite places is Brazil, the people just have so much energy, the place has a real buzz about it, the music. The Funchal would do seasons out of Sweden, the Norwegian fjords, beautiful, then Mediterranean, she kept moving, was in all different languages as well. I did some ships out of Palma de Majorca, one strangely enough yet again a Louis Cruise Line ship (haunting me) that was owned previously by Croisieres Paquet the owners of the Mermoz. It seem strangely intertwined, I never did figure that out. I also did the wonderful cruise ship Marco Polo joining her in Singapore coming back to the Mediterranean.

I ended my cruise history by doing 8 years with Royal Caribbean International, doing three of their Celebrity ships, wonderful cruise line as well.  The Royal Caribbean ships are getting bigger and bigger, I did three of the Voyager class one.  I highly recommend working for Royal Caribbean, check out their website.
I managed to fulfill my numer one goal and many others along the way, the moral is to follow your gut feeling inside with many things in life, for all of your thinking about that be adventurous get a cruise jobs for you, aim for the goals and things will happen for you.

Sticky: a LEGIT way to look for cruise ship employment ?

Cruise Ship Employment

I've been on multiple websites & every single one seems to be phony, or a dead end. Any ideas??
I have not worked on a cruise ship but I have been on about 20 cruises and I usually talk to the staff, and usually about how work is going.

A few things I have learned are that if you are hired you have to sign a contract to work for 8 or 9 months straight. And that means 7 days a week and usually 10 to 12 hours a day and sometimes with a split shift that starts early in the morning and does not end until 10 or 11 PM. There are no Saturdays and Sundays off and you may get to go ashore in port stops on on occasions but not at every stop. After you complete your initial tour then you get 2 or 3 months off before you are to report back to the ship.

All of the cruise lines operating out of the US have jobs information and a link on their web home page. So for a starting point you need to read what they present on their web sites and then contact the cruise lines directly.

On the cruise lines' web sites you will find a link to jobs, employment, human resources or some such link that will give you information about their positions. And there are no fees or charges for information. Some sites even have current vacancies they are recruiting for. Several cruise lines have new ships coming out soon so opportunities will be there. Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Disney and some others will have new ships launched in the next couple years. Here are some links:

Carnival Cruise line is the parent company for several cruise lines including Princess, Carnival, Holland America, Cunard, Seabourn Cruise, and Costa Cruises. Carnival's Corporate offices are located in Miami, Florida.

So if you contact carnival you can also ask about the others.

CARNIVAL: http://www.carnivalcruiselines.com/

PRINCESS: CUNARD: HOLLAND AMERICA COSTA:

Royal Caribbean is the parent cruise line for its partner cruise lines, Celebrity, Azamara, and some others. Their corporate offices are located in Miami, Florida. So in contacting RC you can ask about the others ROYAL CARIBBEAN:

http://www.royalcaribbean.com/gohome.d..... AZAMARA: CELEBRITY: NORWEGIAN:

http://www.ncl.com/

DISNEY: http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/dcl/.....

BEWARE OF WEB SITES ADVERTISING CRUISE SHIP EMPLOYMENT /JOBS THAT CHARGE A FEE !!!

They will take your money and you will not necessarily get a job. Another thing to do is to contact the concession that run the shops on the ships like the spa, photos, souvenir, gift and clothing shops.

Norwegian Cruise Line watches over operations onboard of the fleet of more than fourteen cruise ships within its brands NCL, NCL America and Orient Lines. There are some limitations and requirements to be granted a Freestyle Cruise job onboard a NCL America cruise liner (see How To Get A Job section). There are also differences between those three brands in terms of employment policy, which the cruise line authorities will explain to you at the time of hire. The company applies a customer service concept called STYLE - Service Teamwork and Yes Lead to Excellence. Like with all the major cruise lines, if your job performance is viewed as satisfactory, you will be leaving one season headed home with an employment contract for another one safe in your pocket. (see How To Get A Job section for details).

Great site, look at all the different cruise lines.
