what navy jobs translate to interesting high-paying cruise line jobs? besides captain, if any!~?

Just curious what, if any naval jobs would translate to a high paying cruiseline job, I love the ocean and I would love to make a career out of working on the ocean, I would love to work on a cruise ship, so what jobs should i consider in the navy that would help me here? and i'd like to work on the bridge, i'm thinking of workin in the navy doing weather and taking my degree in hospitality?
As an Navy Vet and Merchant Marine Z-Card holder I would recommend Quartermaster if you are looking at entering the Navy as enlisted and want to advance in the licensed ranks of a Merchant Marine. Radioman if you are just interested in the money, but want to see the light of day. Engineering ratings if you really want to make the money and don't care about personal cleanliness or the sunlight.

  1. Any job related to the maintenance and operation of a ship would translate well.

  2. the captains i have met from cruiselines as a cruise passenger are not usually American. Usually European, Italian , Greek. I’m not sure why , but, the captain and officers are usually foreign. consequently i do not think they have any Navy expereince ? i have been on about ten of them. Carnival cruises, Celebrity, NCL and Princess Cruises. In January, I was on the Carnival Freedom ship. The cabin has a video in the room that explains how the ship is navigated. A computer basically docks the entire ship. Just like an airplane , the pilot / captain do not need to do too much. There is manual charting done by officers each week as a backup to the computer navigation.

honestly, on a cruise ship , i do not think anyone makes decent money except , the captain and the officers and the cruise director / executive Chef. the hairdressers / spa are underpaid. the housekeeping and cooking/ food prep staff and wait /waitress is staff is abused too. international law is not subject to the same labor laws .

Consider a job in health care, such as Nursing or a Doctor. These are always needed on a ship. Navy and ship experience / comfort of the sea would be good background. also having a licene in nursing or as a doctor will be secure career choices in the future as a civilian . if you decide to have a family and anchor yourself to land, you will have options to work anyplace and get a good salary.

to learn about cruiseline opportunties, google the websites.

carnival.com and click on Careers to see listings of job openings. all cruise lines have websites. Royal Carribean, Celebrity cruises, NCL etc. etc.

good luck in your career search.

  4. Some Navy vet’s go merchant marine. Those are the ships that replenish and refuel our Navy ships while out to sea, their runned by civilians who can make around six figures and more a year for basically doing the same thing you would be doing in the Navy. They have a four month on one month off sea rotation year around which isn”t bad. If you didn’t want to go that route there are plenty of jobs out there for Navy vets, but it also depends on your rate or job while in the service, your best bet at success is to get a technical rate with a security Clarence. About a month before I was set to get out I started getting phone calls from government contractors offering me positions. I know that the police and fire department favor ex military of all branches.

  5. Dude watch old episodes of the love boat. Doc, Golpher and Isaac are prime examples of cruise line jobs. Man you could be the guy that catches the fish for the cook. Or the guy that rings the dinner bell. The navy will provide you with all that info. Meanwhile the Army and the Marines will be fighting the war for you.
